Midnight Madness has become a popular event to the residents of Deerfield Beach. This year's event did not quite hold the same ambience as last years, but the music performances and skate exhibitions were still quite entertaining. Last year Less Than Jake rocked the stage and had Deerfield youths in an uproar, this year it seemed like Stampede stole the show. The event was put on by Island Water Sports of Deerfield Beach, and I'm sure the Deerfield Beach citizens can't wait for next years festivities.

South Florida Local Sound Check
South Florida Local Sound Check is a section of the 93 Rock website that is geared towards the promotion and advancement of South Florida's local bands. I love this site, it offers a lot of information on most of South Florida's emerging music scene. You can view band biographies, show dates, awesome links and much more. The site is managed by 93 Rock's "Local Lunatic" Spano.
What I really enjoy is the "what others are saying" section. From what I've seen it is great PR for the bands, and I'm sure they appreciate the compliments. Here are some comments about the band Dear Dad, Yours Truly. You'll see what I'm talking about.

Once again...
Gotta say that Dear Dad, Yours Truly is THE best band EVER! PLEEEEAAAASSEEEEEEEE Keep rocking.

South Florida You Heard It First: Non Point
This is the second installment of South Florida You Heard It First with the band Nonpoint. I remember in high school during my "mall rat" days, countless run-ins with lead singer, Elias Soriano, at the Coral Square Mall. This Miami based band has played all over South Florida including many warped tours, local shows and big venue gigs. Without further ado here is another South Florida You Heard It First band, Nonpoint.

South Florida You Heard It First: New Found Glory
If you have been following Candy Jamz and Holding Hands, you might have caught the excerpt about Dashboard Confessional, a native South Florida band. I felt like that entry would be a perfect segway into my South Florida Your Heard It First special, a look at famous South Florida bands. So without further ado I introduce you to Coral Spring's very own, New Found Glory.

Island Water Sports "Midnight Madness" October 23
To the residents of Deerfield Beach, Midnight Madness has been a popular attraction for the past several years. Participants enjoy live art, huge sales, giveaways, a skate ramp and most importanlty live local music. Last year was by far the best in my opinion, because one of my favorite bands, Less than Jake, was the headline performers. This year we should expect music from Alexander , Buffalo Gun, Crudbot and many other local bands. You should definitely check out Midnight Madness, not only for the music but there is nothing like the Deerfield scene. For more information on Midnight Madness visit Island Water Sports.

South Florida Music Home Journals: The Robotnix volume 3
Here is the last installment of the The Robotnix Home Journals. This song was written entirely by Jack, yes he's a musical genius (that's why we keep him around). It actually is about the show Lost, so listen to the lyrics. If you can't make them out here are the lyrics to follow along. So here is the conclusion of The Robotnix Home Journals, enjoy 'The Lost Song'.
no place to roam
when your stuck on an island
and no one can find their way home
but your not alone
when your stranded with strangers
and imminent danger brings you close
but i know
that one day
we'll look back and say
the only time
we felt free
was when we were living that way
it should give you hope
that your not by yourself here
cause your physical well-fair's quite a load
so help out these folks
cause your goals are the same here
and your holding their fates and they yours
but i know
that one day
we'll look back and say
the only time
we felt free
was when we were living that way
Sunken in the Siege of the lost debree
and why should I stay here,
what will I gain here.
I'm going through the channels but I'm trying to choose
I wanna take the right path but I'm finding that I'm
Losing my mind, one more time and I know.
but i know if we stayed back there
and kept our minds intact then we'd find where
we could be alone to lay in the shade
if we could go back just you and me
and live off the land plant some seeds grow trees
all rest no work all play till our old days
and you're not alone
no place to roam
when your stuck on an island
and no one can find their way home
but your not alone
when your stranded with strangers
and imminent danger brings you close
but i know
that one day
we'll look back and say

Spread the Dub... but Come Original
Early forms of dub can be found in artists such as 311, who were big advocates of prcticing what they preach. Hence the song Come Original. Like I've noted I love the Dub genre, but a lot of bands are falling into a trend of sounding like the genres arguably biggest band, Slightly Stoopid. I was at Murphy's Downtown last Wednesday on their local music night and came across the band Vicious Groove. The set was mostly covers, but the originals for a lack of a better term did not Come Original. I checked Vicious Groove's myspace page, and found one of their originals, Mr.RastaMan. I like the tune but couldn't help but think that the song sounds and is exactly premised off Slightly Stoopid's 'Collie man'. Here is a link to Vicious Groove's myspace page (where you can find the song 'Mr.Rastaman') as well as a the song 'Collie Man' by Slightly Stoopid, I think they're similar but I might be crazy. Tell me what you think.

South Florida Music Home Journals: Stampede Volume 2
This Home Journal segment is very special. Not only are your getting to listen to Deerfield Beach based band Stampede, but your getting a medley of two of their more popular songs, Kinky Town and Ina Mi Yard. Kinky Town was first unveiled at the late City Limits in Del Ray, and it has been a favorite of mine since then. Ina Mi Yard is one of the bands first songs, and is still heavily requested on the playlist. Enjoy this medley and be sure to check out more of Stampede at Stampede's Myspace page.
