South Florida Music Home Journals: The Robotnix volume 2

Here is the second installment of Home Journals featuring The Robotnix yet again. This song is preformed by Joaquim DeMiranda and Ivan Berliant and is called When I'm Dreamin.

This song is about recognizing the corruption and evils of the world with a dream for a better tomorrow.

Boca bands, yes they do exist.

Disguised by the facade of lavish and luxury, Boca Raton, Fla. has more than just a poor stigma by outsiders, there is a local music scene fighting for revival. We must not forget Boca does have a University, Florida Atlantic University, and where there are college kids there's a plethora of young musicians. Here are some of the artists making a name for themselves that are based out of the Boca Raton area.

Band: Panic Disorder

What they sound like: I was never good at comparing bands because artistically I know most bands don't try to emulate anyone (well I hope not anyway). They do have a punk influence, which I appreciate.

Side note: The band released its debut album, "Figure It Out," in late 2008, and they can be found in many of Boca Raton's bars as well as occasional appearances in Fort Lauderdale and other areas of Palm Beach County.

South Florida Music Home Journals: The Robotnix volume 1

I believe I have found a new way to bring you local music so if you can't leave your house you must only look towards the internet.  This segment I am calling Home Journals, highlights local artists in the South Florida area in an acoustic setting. I am beginning this segment with my band, The Robotnix, but more artists are on the way.

Song: Simple Individual

Artist: The Robotnix

Sides note: The Robotnix are a five piece band consisting of Matty P, Dan Barakat, Joaquim DeMiranda, MAC and Ivan Berliant.  This Home Journal features Ivan and Joaquim (Jack).

Background: This is one of the first songs written by the band, the songs message preaches an appreciation of life and a hope for tomorrow.  Feel free to leave some feedback and enjoy.

Is Ska Coming Back?!

I have to admit I was a huge punk/ska kid in my high school years (Which seem like forever ago haha). I was happy to come by a Ska band on my travels last week when I watched CERVEZA at Murphy's Downtown. Now it wasn't the best I've ever seen, but it definitely was good (and good to see Ska's not dead). Although I wasn't skanking, I was totally thinking about it. Here's a video of my favorite Ska band 'Less Than Jake' and a clip of someone skanking (if you had no idea what I was referring to).

Club Propaganda... If you don't know, now you now

If you ever find yourself in the Lake Worth area or if your just in the mood to watch new emerging music, Propaganda is the place to be. From experience (The Robotnix played a show there a few months back) the acoustics in the place sound great, and the variety of artists they host is quite good.

Here's a list of bands playing this week at Propoganda

Spread the Dub
Thursday September 17th

Side note: Spread the Dub plays frequently at Propaganda and is usually the house band on their Thursday Reggae nights. Dub music is one of the best emerging genre's of music in my opinion and if you like Slightly Stoopid or similiar bands  you will enjoy these guys.

The People Upstairs and Speaking Volumes
Friday September 18th

Spam ALLSTARS
Saturday September 19th

The Get
Sunday September 20th

League of Assassins and Electric Canvas Art Show!
Tuesday Septermber 22nd

Stampede!
Thursday September 22nd

Side Note: It seems Stampede will be playing Reggae night instead of Spread the Dub. Stampede played an awesome show yesterday (September 16) at Murphy's in Boca Raton. It was good to see them open up with the hits such as Johnny, Ina Mi Yard and they even did a dub cover of The Beatles hit 'A Little Help From My Friends'.

Check out Propaganda's website for more information on the venue or any of the bands mentioned above

The Robotnix dropping tunes of ill-Logic...

Last night I was not only lucky enough to attend Murphy's Wednesday live music night, but my band The Robotnix played a set!!! Some technical difficulties were experienced but overall it was a good show.

The set list included:

1) Simple Individual (original)
2) The Lost Song (original)
3) Handlebars (Cover originally performed by The Flobots)
4) Her Ways (original)
5) Under the Sun (original)
6) When I'm Dreamin' (original)
7) King Without a Crown ( Cover originally performed by Matisyahu)

Pictures should be up soon...Hopefully!

The show went well and I think we'll be playing their again next Wednesday, so I highly suggest you and your friends make your presence felt at Murphy's Downtown 9/23 in Boca Raton.

There is no cover if your are 21+, and only $5 cover if your under 21.  The drink specials really get to you (and they definitely got to me last night if you know what I mean) with $5 pitchers and flip-a-coin drinks. Guess the flip right, and you get a free drink. Go with heads...

For more info give Murphy's a ring (because they don't have a website for some reason) @ (561) 447-6617

I really HATE Myspace

As much as I am not a fan of Myspace, I do beleive it is a good avenue in which musicians and bands can expand their musical reach.  Not to be out done, Facebook too has created a music section within their network. Personally I like the move, it's competitive and gives me yet another reason to check my Facebook (and yet another reason to stay away from Myspace!).  Here are the Facebook and Myspace URLs for The Resolvers and the Myspace URL for Spread the Dub (you need to jump on the bandwagon guys and make a Facebook page)... Tell me which one you like better?

Remember you can visit any one of these sites to find updated information on the bands and where they're playing next.

Time to Familiarize blind eyes...

I'll be covering a select group of reggae artists,
so I feel you need to catch the vibe I'm putting out.
This is Stampede's first video, Fisher of Men.
I happen to know the director so I don't mind saying that the video
is a litte crude, yet the artistic direction is quite evident.

Enjoy!!!

You can also hear more from Stampede! at their Myspace page

Hello Music Lovers!!!

Hello all!!!

Since I have complete creative control as to what I deseminate to you for the next few weeks, this blog will be devoted to the local reggae music movement...

"My music fights against the system that teaches to live and die"- Bob Marley

I am fortunate to say that the South Florida Reggae scene is alive and well. There are three bands in the area that I feel are making noise (and the pun is intended). So here are my top three in order....

1) Stampede!
2) The Resolvers(Dubfest band winners)
3) Spread the Dub

You can catch and support Stampede! Wednesday 9/16 when they play with The Robotnix @ Murphy's Downtown located @ 36 SE 3rd St Boca Raton, FL 33432.

Venue note: Murphy's has quite the reputation amongst the residents of Boca Raton. Mostly known for its Tuesday "College Nights," the bar is trying to blow up their Wednesdays by annointing Stampede! as the house band while promoting their $5 pitcher specials and flip-a-coin drinks... flip a coin after you buy a drink if you guess right the next ones free... Personally the specials need some help but they just put in a new stage and the music should be worth it.

What to watch for: The Robotnix will share the stage Wednesday as this Boca Raton based band continues to develop. They are not a reggae band in fact (actually it's quite hard to categorize them, but if anything they're very hip/hop, alternative, folk influenced if that makes any sense...), but their unique musical styling leaves any listener intrigued.

The Resolvers will be playing Friday at their usual spot (Kahuna's in Deerfield Beach) @10:00 p.m.

-and-

Spread the Dub will take stage at Propaganda (which is an awesome venue!!!) Thursday Sept 17th @ 10:00 p.m.

Well thats three shows in three days, now you can't complain about having nothing to do. That's all for now bloggers!!!
